Overview
The Motella project aims to integrate peer-to-peer capabilities in the Mozilla browser. The advantages of including such functionalities in Mozilla are:
- Portability
- Use of stable and reliable network protocols such as HTTP
- Seamless integration of http, ftp, gopher and irc URLs with peer-to-peer hashlink URL such as magnet and ed2k
Roadmap
Motella 0.1 is expected to implement part of the Gnutella 0.6 protocol. It will implement the handshaking, ping, pong, query and HTTP downloads.
Motella 0.2 is expected to implement discovery and auto-reconnections based on local caches and Web-caches
Motella 0.3 is expected to implement query-hit and incoming connections for http uploads.
Further releases will address the implementation of eDonkey protocols.
